Legal Awareness Programme by Legal Aid and Extension Cell

On 29 November 2025, the students of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, on behalf of the Legal Aid and Extension Cell, conducted a Legal Awareness Programme at Government Higher Primary School, Renjala, and Government Lower Primary School, Bagaltakatte. During the visit, student coordinators and volunteers interacted with the school children and created awareness on key topics such as the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences), the Constitution of India, Fundamental Rights and Duties, and other essential legal concepts. The purpose of the programme was to educate young students about their rights, responsibilities, and personal safety.

The sessions were interactive, informative, and well-received by the students. The programme was carried out by Legal Aid Volunteers: Shlaghya N. Kotian, Vijeth M. Shetty, Aditi Pai, Sowjanya, and Spoorthi V. S., who effectively engaged the students and contributed to strengthening legal awareness at the grassroots level.

A guest lecture on “Computation of Bonus: A Comprehensive Practical Perspective” was organised on 24 November 2025 at SDM Law College, Mangaluru. The session was coordinated by Dr. Dimpal Mesta, Assistant Professor, SDMLC, and the resource person was CA Nerissa C. Noronha, B. Com, ACA, Mangaluru. She addressed the II Year LL.B. students, explaining the aims and objectives of the Payment of Bonus Act and providing a detailed practical demonstration of bonus computation, including the calculation of gross profit, allocable and available surplus, and the scheme of set-off and set-on. The lecture offered students valuable insights into the practical aspects of labour law and deepened their understanding of bonus computation in real-world contexts.

Samvidhan 2025 – Celebration of Constitution Day at SDM Law College, Mangaluru

SDM Law College, Mangaluru, observed Samvidhan 2025 on 26 November 2025 to commemorate Constitution Day. The programme was organised by the Constitution Club, Electoral Club, and SVEEP Cell of the college. Sri H. Satish, II Additional Senior Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mangaluru, attended as the Guest of Honour and highlighted the sanctity of the Constitution and the judiciary’s role in upholding constitutional values. He also administered the reading of the Preamble. The event was presided over by Principal Dr. Tharanatha, and was attended by Vice Principal Dr. Balika, Dr. Santhosha Kumara A., HOD of Law, and Amith S. M., HOD of Pre-Law.

Court to Couture

The Corporate, Consumer and C S Training Cell of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, organized a workshop titled “Court to Couture” on 20 November 2025. The session was conducted by Ms. Shreya Shetty, an alumna of the college and currently the Brand Manager at New GOI Gems, Milan, a company specializing in gemstones and diamonds. She shared her experiences from the fields of law and luxury brand management, highlighting how her legal education shaped her professional journey. She emphasized the importance of professional etiquette, grooming, courtroom presentation, and legal professionalism, while also explaining her transition from studying law to pursuing a Master’s degree in Luxury Brand Management abroad, which led to her current career.

Students of BBA LL.B attended the workshop and actively interacted with the resource person. The programme was presided over by Mrs. Ujwala, Associate Professor of English, and convened by Dr. Shaheema A. S, Assistant Professor of Law. The session helped students gain a deeper understanding of professional expectations in the legal field and the need for a confident, polished personal presentation.

MAGISTER JURIS 2025: The Ultimate Battle of Legal Minds

SDM Law College successfully organized “Magister Juris 2025 – The Ultimate Battle of Legal Minds” on 7th and 8th November 2025, hosted by the Moot Court Society. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Fawaz P. A., Presiding Officer, JMFC VIII Court, Mangalore, who highlighted the importance of strong advocacy skills and professional ethics in his Chief Guest’s address. The competition featured a range of events including Moot Court (Senior and Junior levels), Bail Petition, Client Counselling leading to Drafting of Pleadings, Negotiation, Quiz, Judgment Writing, and Legislative Drafting. Day 1 included Client Counselling, Bail Petition, Drafting of Pleadings, and the Quiz, while Day 2 focused on Negotiation and Moot Court rounds.

Participants showcased exceptional legal reasoning, drafting abilities, and courtroom presentation skills throughout the two days. The fest concluded with a Valedictory Session, where presiding officers presented awards to the winners and commended their performance. SDMLC Celebrates the Birthday of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade

SDM Law College, Mangalore, celebrated the birthday of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, President of the SDM Educational Society, on November 25. The celebration featured service-oriented activities inspired by Dr. Heggade’s four noble dānas – Abhayadana, Vidyadana, Aushadadana, and Annadana. As part of the programme, the Student Executive Committee, accompanied by Student Welfare Officer Dr. Reshma, visited the Government Higher Primary School, Mallikatte, where they engaged the children in interactive games. Stationery kits, sweets, and chocolates were distributed, and meals were served, reflecting the spirit of service and compassion. Later, the office bearers visited Govanitaashraya Trust (R), Pajiru Goshala, a shelter housing more than 416 rescued cows, and made a small contribution in support of animal care and welfare.

The NSS Unit of the college organised a one-day service camp at Sri Anantha Padmanabha Temple, Kudupu, where student volunteers actively participated in temple service activities. The collective efforts of the students and staff reflected the values of community service and social responsibility inspired by Dr. Heggade’s leadership.
