The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) General Body Meeting of SDM Law College Centre for PG Studies and Research in Law was held on 15 November 2025. During the meeting, the Executive Committee for the academic year 2025–2026 was elected. The newly elected members are: Vice President – Mr. S. Sathish Kumar, Joint Secretary – Mrs. Sahana Devi, and Members – Ms. Sushma B. Shetty, Ms. Nayana Nayak, Mrs. Suvarnalatha D., Mr. Ganesh Kumar K, and Mr. Nishad.
Following the election, the new Executive Committee was formally inaugurated. Thereafter, the Committee held its first meeting for the academic year 2025–2026, during which members discussed the proposed activities and plans for the effective functioning of the PTA. The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen coordination between parents and the institution for the holistic development of students.
Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, Centre for Post-Graduate Studies and Research in Law, Mangalore, in collaboration with the Global Academy of Law-Tech Education & Research (GALTER), Hyderabad, organized the 2nd International Colloquium on Tech Driven Socio-Legal Research Methods – Tools and Techniques on 25th and 26th October 2025. The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chairperson, 23rd Law Commission of India; Former Judge, Supreme Court of India; and Former Chief Justice of the Karnataka and Meghalaya High Courts.
Prof. Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Founder Director of GALTER, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, while Dr. Tharanatha, Principal of SDM Law College, presided over the inaugural programme. The two-day colloquium featured six technical sessions, paper presentations, and a panel discussion. On the first day, Dr. Josina Rodrigues, Blockchain Advisor and the first Ph.D. holder in Blockchain Studies from Portugal, delivered the opening session. The subsequent sessions were conducted by Dr. Nanda Kishor M. S., Head and Associate Professor, Department of Politics and International Studies, Pondicherry University, and Prof. Dr. Sairam Bhat, Professor of Law, National Law School of India University, Bangalore.
The second day included sessions by Dr. Rajendra Baikady, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Central University of Kerala; Prof. Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Founder, GALTER; and Dr. Bharti, Dean, Faculty of Law, Manipal University, Jaipur. Academicians, research scholars, students, and advocates presented papers on diverse aspects of the colloquium’s theme. A panel discussion on the central theme featured eminent academicians including Prof. Dr. Yugal Kishor, Prof. Firdous Wani, Prof. Shashikant Gupta, Dr. Balika, and Dr. Santhosh Prabhu, who shared their expert insights on the evolving role of technology in socio-legal research.
The Valedictory Session was graced by Prof. Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Chairperson, CIPU National Committee on R&D and Industry-Academia Collaboration, and Vice President, Research Relations and Academic Affairs, Elsevier India, as the Guest of Honour. The event also witnessed the presence of Dr. Chandralekha V., IQAC Coordinator; Mrs. Vinutha K., Convenor, Seminar and Conference Committee; Mr. Amith S. M., HOD (Pre-Law) and Faculty Convenor, Research and Publication Unit; Ms. Kavya, LL.M. Coordinator; Dr. Suma S. Kogilgeri, Faculty Convenor, MoUs and Collaborations; Ms. Nagadarshini Naik, Student Secretary, Research and Publication Unit; and Ms. D. M. Deeksha, Student Secretary, IQAC. The Moot Court Society of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, recently organised a Workshop on Client Counselling leading to Drafting of Pleadings and Negotiation. Mrs. Jayashree M. Rattihalli, Founder Associate of Prolegis Associates and Advocate, Mangalore, served as the Resource Person for the session. Drawing from her vast experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), she delivered an engaging presentation on client counselling, drafting of pleadings, and negotiation. She highlighted the importance of active listening, patient interaction, and voice modulation, illustrating these with real-life examples from her mediation and arbitration practice.
The session was highly interactive, with participants taking part in role-play exercises as advocates and negotiators to resolve simulated conflicts. Through practical activities and thought-provoking discussions, Mrs. Rattihalli fostered a dynamic learning environment that enhanced participants’ understanding of client interaction, drafting, and negotiation strategies. The programme was presided over by Dr. Ashwini P., Faculty Convenor of the Moot Court Society. Ms. Vindhya K., Student Secretary, welcomed the gathering, and Ms. Swathi, Student Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
A three-day lecture series on “New Trends in Banking Sector & Impact of DRT” was organised by the Centre for P.G. Studies of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, from 15th to 17th October 2025. Ms. Neela Hegde, Advocate, Mangaluru, served as the resource person. Over the three days, she discussed the practical implementation of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002, explained the functioning of the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT), and illustrated her lecture with relevant and recent case examples.
Ms. Kavya, Coordinator of P.G. Studies, was present on the occasion. Ms. Stuthi Chowta, 2nd year LL.M. student, welcomed the gathering, and Ms. Deona Lita Dsouza, 2nd year LL.M. student, proposed the vote of thanks.
The Legal Aid and Extension Cell / Arbitration Centre of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, in association with the Anti-Ragging and Anti-Drug Cell, organised an Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse on 17th October 2025, in commemoration of the Pattabhishekha Day of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade. Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty K, Forensic Expert and Medicolegal Consultant, Mangaluru, served as the resource person. He emphasized that drug abuse transcends religion and urged the youth to develop a positive mindset to resist peer pressure. He pointed out that substance use often stems from feelings of inferiority and curiosity, viewing it as a disease rather than a crime, and discussed key provisions of the NDPS Act.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Tharanatha, Principal of the College. Dr. Balika, Vice Principal, Dr. Santhosha Kumara A, Head of the Department of Law, Mr. Amith S. M., Head of the Department of Pre-Law, Dr. Chandralekha V, IQAC Coordinator, and other faculty members were present. Dr. Ravindra K. The Moot Court Society of SDM Law College, Mangalore, organised a workshop on Legislative Drafting on 15th October 2025. Meemansa Singh, Senior Program Manager at Outlawed India, guided students on the structure of legislation, shared practical tips, and highlighted key aspects of effective legislative drafting. Dr. Ashwini P., Faculty Convenor, and Vindhya K., Student Secretary, attended the session, which was compered by Swathi, Student Coordinator. The workshop provided students with practical insights into legislative processes and drafting skills.
The Moot Court Society organised a workshop on Appraisal of Evidence and Judgment Writing on 13th October 2025. Dr. Suma Suresh Kogilgeri, Assistant Professor, guided students on evaluating evidence and drafting effective judgments, highlighting the key structure and components of a well-written judgment. The session offered practical insights into judicial reasoning, enhancing students’ legal skills. Dr. Ashwini P., Faculty Convenor of the Moot Court Society, attended the programme, which was compered by Vindhya K., Student Secretary.
Students Ananth J. Menon, Nivedithalekshmi, Abhay Abraham Simon, and Niva Shamej from SDM Law College, Mangaluru, brought laurels to the institution by securing First Place in the Marketing Event at DAKSH 2025, a National-level Management Fest organized by De Paul Institute of Science and Technology, Angamaly, Kochi, Kerala.
The Women’s badminton team of SDM Law College clinched First Place, while the Men’s team secured Second Place at the KSLU Inter-Collegiate Badminton Tournament held on 9th October at BMS College of Law, Bangalore. Bindushree and Atheeth were awarded Player of the Tournament for their exceptional performance, contributing significantly to their teams’ success.
Koustubha P. and Akash P. S., students of III Year B.B.A., LL.B., emerged as Runners-up in the “Trading Masterminds” event at Aloysian Fest 2K25, a National-level intercollegiate fest organised by St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangalore.
