An Awareness Program on Child Labour

An awareness program on the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 (as amended in 2016), human trafficking, and the ill-effects of drug abuse was organized at on 10th September 2025 Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, Mangalore. The event was jointly conducted by the District Legal Services Authority, District Administration, Labour Department, District Child Labour Project Society, Police Department, Childline, and SDM Law College. Inaugurating the program, Smt. Jaibunnisa, Senior Civil Judge, stressed the need to create awareness and extend collective support to eradicate child labour. She expressed confidence that knowledge would spread like light and transform lives. The chief guest, Smt. Nazia Sultan, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Mangalore Division, highlighted that the primary objective of the Child Labour Act is to ensure equal rights, a secure future, and a happy childhood for every child in the nation.

Special lectures were delivered by Mr. Revannasiddappa, Sub-Inspector, Sen Police Station, on the harmful effects of drugs; Smt. Wilma Elizabeth Tavaro, Labour Officer, South Sub-Division–2, on the provisions of the amended Child Labour Act; and Dr. Naveen Chandra, District Programme Officer, on tobacco control laws. The program was attended by Mr. Srinivas, Director, District Child Labour Project Society, and Dr. Tharanath, Principal, SDM Law College. The event was well-coordinated by Smt. Creating a Ragging-Free Campus: A One-Day Workshop at SDM Law College

On 2 September 2025, SDM Law College, Mangalore hosted a one-day workshop titled “Creating a Ragging-Free Campus”. The workshop was organized by the college’s Anti-Ragging Cell, aimed at fostering awareness and ensuring a safe, harassment-free environment for students.

Mr. Ashwin, Assistant Professor at SDM Law College, served as the resource person for the program. During his session, he emphasized the collective role students can play in eliminating ragging from the campus. He engaged students in a practical exercise, guiding them through the process of filling out an anti-ragging undertaking form from the college’s official website. Mr. Ashwin also provided valuable insights into what constitutes ragging, how students can report incidents, and the serious legal consequences for those found guilty of ragging.

Leadership Training Programme 

The Student Executive Council of SDMLC organized a Leadership Training Programme on 1st September 2025, aimed at empowering student leaders with essential leadership skills and values.

The session was led by Mr. Dawn Prakash, Assistant Professor at SDM MBA, Mangalore, who served as the resource person for the event. Through engaging activities and interactive discussions, Mr. Prakash emphasized that leadership is rooted in taking initiative and fostering cooperation among peers. He also highlighted the importance of time management, stating, “If you value your time, time will value you.”

The programme was presided over by Dr. Tharanatha, Principal of SDMLC. Also in attendance were Dr. Santhosh Prabhu, Head of the Department of Law, Dr. Reshma, Student Welfare Officer, and Mr. Narasimha S. Bhandary, Chief Secretary of the Student Executive Council.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by Atheeth, a student of IVth BBA LLB, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Anusha Narayan, also from IVth BBA LLB.

Student Executive Council Inauguration at SDMLC – 30-08-2025

Student’s Executive Council Inauguration of SDM Law College Centre for Post-graduate Studies and Research in Law was held on 30 August 2025

Sri. Basavaraj., Honourable Principal District and Sessions Judge, Mangalore was the inaugurator of the ceremony. In his address, he embarked on the importance of taking up leadership responsibilities that will help in the overall personality development of a student. He further emphasised that by being a part of the executive council one can enhance their leadership abilities, develop teamwork skills, improve public speaking, and gain experience in event management.

Dr. Tharanatha., Principal of the college, in his presidential address explained the roles and responsibilities of the council members.

The oath to the Student Council members was administered by Dr. Balika., Vice Principal of the college. It was followed with distribution of badges to the student secretaries of various cells and committees.
