Workshop on Client Counselling, Drafting of Pleadings, and Negotiation at SDM Law College

The Moot Court Society of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, recently organised a Workshop on Client Counselling leading to Drafting of Pleadings and Negotiation. Mrs. Jayashree M. Rattihalli, Founder Associate of Prolegis Associates and Advocate, Mangalore, served as the Resource Person for the session. Drawing from her vast experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), she delivered an engaging presentation on client counselling, drafting of pleadings, and negotiation. She highlighted the importance of active listening, patient interaction, and voice modulation, illustrating these with real-life examples from her mediation and arbitration practice.

The session was highly interactive, with participants taking part in role-play exercises as advocates and negotiators to resolve simulated conflicts. Through practical activities and thought-provoking discussions, Mrs. Rattihalli fostered a dynamic learning environment that enhanced participants’ understanding of client interaction, drafting, and negotiation strategies. Lecture Series on “New Trends in Banking Sector & Impact of DRT” at SDM Law College, Mangaluru

A three-day lecture series on “New Trends in Banking Sector & Impact of DRT” was organised by the Centre for P.G. Studies of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, from 15th to 17th October 2025. Ms. Neela Hegde, Advocate, Mangaluru, served as the resource person. Over the three days, she discussed the practical implementation of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002, explained the functioning of the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT), and illustrated her lecture with relevant and recent case examples.

Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse in Commemoration of Pattabhishekha Day of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade

The Legal Aid and Extension Cell / Arbitration Centre of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, in association with the Anti-Ragging and Anti-Drug Cell, organised an Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse on 17th October 2025, in commemoration of the Pattabhishekha Day of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade. Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty K, Forensic Expert and Medicolegal Consultant, Mangaluru, served as the resource person. He emphasized that drug abuse transcends religion and urged the youth to develop a positive mindset to resist peer pressure. He pointed out that substance use often stems from feelings of inferiority and curiosity, viewing it as a disease rather than a crime, and discussed key provisions of the NDPS Act.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Tharanatha, Principal of the College. Dr. Balika, Vice Principal, Dr. Santhosha Kumara A, Head of the Department of Law, Mr. Amith S. LEGAL AID CAMP 2025 AT VAMANJOOR

The Legal Aid and Extension Cell / Arbitration Centre of SDM Law College, Mangalore, in association with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the Mangalore Bar Association, organised a Legal Aid Camp on 9th October 2025 at Vamanjoor. Smt. Zaibunnisa, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Dakshina Kannada, inaugurated the programme. In her address, she highlighted the functioning of the DLSA and encouraged the gathering to make effective use of legal awareness initiatives. Dr. Akshatha Adarsh, Chairperson, Dakshina Kannada Child Welfare Committee, served as the Chief Guest and spoke on the care and protection of children, sharing valuable insights and practical examples related to POCSO cases. The programme was presided over by Dr. Tharanatha, Principal of SDM Law College, who lauded the proactive role of the DLSA in supporting legal aid initiatives. He also recalled his own experiences participating in legal aid surveys during his college days and motivated students to extend maximum support to the public through such programmes.

The NSS Annual Camp 2025–26 was inaugurated at SDM Mangala Jyothi School, Vamanjoor, under the theme “Youth for My Bharath – Youth for Digital Literacy.” NSS Programme Officer Pushparaj K. delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of youth engagement in community initiatives. Dr. Bharath Shetty inaugurated the camp and shared insights on the role of digital literacy among youth.
