  • If the candidate is selected for admission, he will be informed by Post. Selection of student is done purely on Merit basis of their earlier examination and interview. The selected candidate is required to produce the following certificate in original at the time of admission:
  • S.S.L.C Marks Card
  • Statement of Marks Cards of II P.U.C. or equivalent / 3 years Degree / LL.B. Degree
  • Passing Certificate / Degree Certificate
  • Transfer Certificate issued from the College last studied
  • Conduct Certificate
  • Eligibility certificate issued by University (If the candidate is from outside University)
  • Migration Certificate issued from / her University / Board

 

  • Eligibility Certificate: Applicants who have passed the qualifying examination from other than the Universities located in Karnataka State / Karnataka P.U. Board, must produce the Eligibility Certificate issued by the Registrar, Karnataka State Law University, Hubli at the time of admission.   This can be had from the University on submitting an application in the prescribed form enclosing the attested Xerox copies of the statement of marks, S.S.L.C. Migration certificate with the fees prescribed by the Registrar, Karnataka State Law University, Hubli.  No admission can be made without this certificate.
  • Migration Certificate: All the students who have studied course other than that of Pre University Board of Karnataka and students who have completed degree course from University shall produce Migration Certificate at the time admission.

Admission is not given as a matter of right. The Principal may refuse admission to any student without assigning any reason.

 

ELIGIBILITY

3 year LL.B. course

Eligibility and Admission Procedure

Admissions to first year of the 3 year LL.B. course, is strictly based on merit, based on the marks secured by the candidate in the qualifying examination.

To be eligible for admission in the 3 year LL.B. course, the candidate should:

Have graduated in any discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent national institution recognised as a Deemed to be University or Foreign University recognised as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declare equivalence, may apply for three year degree course in law leading to the conferment of LL.B. degree on successful completion of the regular programme conducted under these Regulations.

Be or be less than thirty years in case of general category of applicants and thirty five years in the case of applicants from SC, ST and other backward communities as on 1st June.

Have secured marks, which shall not be below 45% (44.5% and above shall be treated as 45%) of total marks in case of general category applicants and 40% of total marks in case of SC and ST applicants.

Intake and Reservation
The intake in 3 year LL.B. course shall be 60.
While admitting candidates to the course, reservation policy of the Government of Karnataka governing admission to higher educational institutions issued from time to time shall be applied.

Fee Structure
Candidate seeking admission to the 3 Year LL. B. degree course and those admitted to such course shall pay the tuition and other fees as prescribed by the University from time to time.

 

5 year B.B.A., LL.B. course

Eligibility and Admission Procedure

Admissions to first year of the 5 year B.B.A., LL.B. integrated course, is strictly based on merit, based on the marks secured by the candidate in the qualifying examination.

To be eligible for admission in the 5 year B.B.A., LL.B. integrated course, the candidate should:
have successfully completed Pre-University course or Senior Secondary School course (‘+2’) or equivalent such as (11+1, ‘A’ level in Senior School Leaving Certificate course) from a recognised University of India or outside or from Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognised by the Union or by the State Government or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognised by the government of that country for the purpose of issue of qualifying certificate on successful completion of the course, may apply for and be admitted into the course.

Provided that applicants who have obtained +2 Higher Secondary Pass Certificate or First Degree Certificate after prosecuting studies in distance or correspondence method shall also be considered as eligible for admission to the course.

Provided further that the applicants who have obtained 10+2 or graduation or post graduation through open Universities system directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission to the course.

LL.M. course

The Programme and Duration:

  1. Master of Laws (L.L.M) Degree Programme is being offered by Centre for P.G. Studies & Research in Law at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, Mangalore. The specialisation offered by the college is “Corporate and Commercial Law”.
  1. LL.M Degree course shall be of one year duration spread over two semesters.
  2. Each Academic Year shall be divided into two Semesters
  3. Each Semester shall consist of 18 weeks of teaching/research/practical.
  4. The courses shall be as given in the Schedule appended. The syllabus for each of the course shall be as notified by the University from time to time.

Course Structure:

  1. The LL.M Programme shall have 24 credits with three foundation/ Mandatory courses of 3 credits each (making a total of nine credits), six optional/specialization courses of 2 credits each(making a total of 12 credits) and a dissertation of 3 credits.
  2. The allocation of courses over two semesters shall be as under.

I Semester:

  1. Foundation Course I: Research Methods and Legal Writing
  2. Foundation Course II: Comparative Public Law
  3. Foundation Course III: Law and Justice in a globalizing World
  4. Specialisation course-I
  5. Specialisation course-II

II Semester

  1. Specialisation course-III
  2. Specialisation course-IV
  3. Specialisation course-V
  4. Specialisation course-VI
  5. Dissertation

Corporate and Commercial Law – Specialisation Courses

  1. Specialisation Course-I: Company Law
  2. Specialisation Course-II: Banking and Insurance Law
  3. Specialisation Course-III: Competition Law
  4. Specialisation Course-IV: Laws on Securities and Financial Markets
  5. Specialisation Course-V: International Trade Law

Admission Procedure:

  1. Admission to L.L.M Programme shall be through an All India Admission Test conducted by the Karnataka State Law University which shall be designed to test the aptitude for teaching/research, (ii) comprehension, (iii) basic legal knowledge and (iv) legal reasoning. The question paper shall contain objective type questions, short answer questions and one essay type question.
  2. The admission test will be for 70% of total marks of the test and the remaining 30% will be distributed on the basis of work experience (moot courts, clinical experience, research projects undertaken, other simulation exercises), publications, and legal knowledge. This component shall be assessed through a viva-voce conducted by a committee under the chairpersonship of the Dean or heads of post graduate centers, and two experts nominated by the Vice Chancellor who shall be Professors in Law. In case of necessity an additional committee consisting of three experts may be constituted. A far as possible, viva-voce shall be conducted on the day or the following day of the admission test itself.
  3. The question paper for the admission test shall be prepared by a committee consisting of a chairman and 4 other members nominated by the Vice Chancellor.
  4. The committee shall prepare three sets of papers and submit the same to the Registrar (Evaluation) of the Karnataka State Law University.
  5. The answer scripts shall be assessed by such of the experts as decided by the Vice Chancellor.
  6. The admission test shall be conducted at the Karnataka State University main campus.
  7. There shall be a common application for admission test. However, the applicant shall mention the order of preference of their choice of the Law School or P.G Departments for admission.
  8. The Admission Test shall be of two and a half hours duration for 70 marks. It shall be conducted between 9-00 am and 11-30 am on the day notified by the University. The viva-voce shall be conducted for 30 marks on the same day from 12-00 noon onwards.
  9. The final list of candidates eligible for admission shall be prepared by the Admission Committee consisting of the Dean, Director of Law School, Heads of P.G Departments, Director Students Welfare and Coordinator SC/ST Cell based on merit after consolidating the marks obtained in the admission test and viva-voce and following the prevailing rule of Karnataka Government relating to reservations within five days from the date of admission test.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission Test:

  1. An applicant who has graduated in law from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent national institution recognized as a Deemed to be University recognized as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by the Equivalence Committee of Karnataka State Law University competent to declare equivalence, may apply for LL.M. Degree Course.
  2. Minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination shall not be below 45% of total marks in case of general category applicants and 40% of total marks in case of SC and ST applicants.

Intake:

  1. As the university directions, No School/College or P.G Department of studies in Law authorized to impart education in the LL.M. degree course shall admit more than 20 students in each Branch.
  2. The University shall reserve the right to prescribe the number of Branches in each Law School/College or the Department of Studies in Law.

Tuition and other fees:

Candidate seeking admission to the LL.M. Degree Programme shall the tuition and other fees as prescribed by the University from time to time.
